To grandly welcome the visit of China's President Xi Jinping, the state head hosted a state banquet at the National Palace, featuring a menu carefully selected with traditional Malay cuisine, fully showcasing Malaysia's cultural depth and hospitality.
From the "state banquet menu" shared by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, it can be seen that the banquet held on Wednesday commenced with classic Malaysian appetizers. Guests first savored aromatic satay—charcoal-grilled chicken and lamb skewers, paired with onions, cucumbers, Malay rice cakes, and rich peanut sauce, presenting authentic flavors.
Next was a creatively prepared dish of morel mushrooms stuffed with shrimp, water chestnuts, and chives, combining Malay and Chinese elements for a rich texture. The final appetizer was traditional Malay otak-otak, steamed with spices and fish, offering a unique taste.
The soup served was a Malay-style chicken soup, simmered with spices, containing shredded chicken, peanuts, vermicelli, and green onions, warming yet aromatic, awakening the taste buds.
For the main course, the royal chefs served Malay mutton bakar, accompanied by crispy fried spring chicken, quail eggs, pickled fruits, and Indian flatbread, a fusion of Malay, Indian, and Chinese cuisines, showcasing Malaysia's multicultural charm.
The dessert section of the banquet was equally impressive, featuring black glutinous rice dessert with coconut milk, traditional Malay cakes, and Nyonya kuih, all delivering a sweet yet lingering taste. Finally, guests concluded the prestigious feast with a perfect ending in a cup of aromatic coffee or elegant tea.
This state banquet not only demonstrated Malaysia's high regard for President Xi's visit but also strengthened the friendship between the Malaysian and Chinese peoples through the culinary bridge.
