(Bandar Seri Begawan, 2nd) The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, through the Tourism Development Department, in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO VOCTECH), recently held a three-day “Excellence in Customer Service Training for the Hospitality and Tourism Industry,” attended by 15 guides registered with the Tourism Development Department.

This training is reportedly part of the Tourism Development Department’s commitment to elevate customer service quality to an excellent level by practicing Islamic values. In this way, the department strategically reinforces Islamic tourism as a unique selling point, distinguishing Brunei Darussalam from other regional tourist destinations.

The “MESRA” campaign, launched in 2022, has further strengthened this quality improvement effort. The campaign’s name stands for “Muhibbah” (integrity), “Ethics,” “Smile,” “Friendliness,” and “Adil” (sincerity), serving as an important tool to promote tourism services communication and cultural exchange.

Authorities encourage every service provider to respect and practice Islamic values, and the implementation of MESRA ensures that customer service in the tourism industry always aligns with the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.

Through this training, participants gained in-depth understanding of the core foundations of customer service based on Islamic teachings and principles, and strengthened their skills, knowledge, and attitudes to demonstrate enthusiasm, professionalism, and sincerity in service to provide an outstanding experience.

The organizers stated that this training is significant in ensuring tourism industry personnel possess sufficient capability and understanding to receive tourists according to Islamic teachings, while demonstrating Brunei’s hospitality and courtesy.

The Tourism Development Department will continue to promote initiatives to raise the professionalism of the hospitality and tourism industry, ensuring that guides and service personnel strive for continuous improvement and continue to provide quality service and high-quality tourism experiences for all visitors.
