(Kuching, 16th) Sarawak's community-centered festive activities have strengthened the state's social ecosystem and enhanced the overall happiness and social well-being index by bringing joy to different groups.
Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development, said events like the "2026 Kamboh Eh Raya" ensure that communities are not overlooked during festive seasons and allow everyone to share the joy of celebration together.
She pointed out that such activities provide opportunities for various groups in society to experience the festive atmosphere, including the elderly, children, and single mothers.
She said: "Activities like these are certainly beneficial. In Sarawak, we have many similar activities during the festive periods. They are very lively because there are always organizations arranging events for specific groups, the public, the elderly, children, and single mothers."
"For us, this has created a good ecosystem in Sarawak during festive periods, enabling people to feel the joy of celebration because they have not been forgotten."
She made these comments when interviewed by reporters while attending the Kamboh Eh Raya event at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching, on Sunday.
She added that such efforts are not limited to Hari Raya celebrations, but will also take place during other major festivals such as Chinese New Year and Gawai Dayak.
Fatimah also stated that the spirit of inclusiveness and harmony during festive periods helps Sarawak establish a strong sense of social well-being, allowing people from different backgrounds to celebrate peacefully together.
She said: "As I have mentioned before, this helps our happiness index, boosts overall happiness and social well-being. We hope that when we conduct the social well-being index study again this year, it will still show a high index."
It is worth mentioning that, as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility, Plaza Merdeka, together with Babyshop, Wawa Playground and The Waterfront Hotel, donated RM10,000 to the Sarawak Division of the Samarahan Social Welfare Office (Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Bahagian Samarahan, PKMBS) to support disadvantaged children in Samarahan.
Also present at the event were Datuk Hilmy Othman, Mayor of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Datuk Steve Ng, Managing Director of Plaza Merdeka, and Datin Anriza Wong Cordero, Executive Director.
