(Israel, 13th) An Israeli public opinion poll shows that more than 70% of Israelis support the authorities reaching an agreement with Hamas to end the war in Gaza in exchange for the immediate release of all hostages.
According to The Times of Israel, Channel 12 released a poll on Friday (July 11), showing that 74% of Israelis support a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza. Among these, 60% had previously voted for Prime Minister Netanyahu's ruling coalition.
Netanyahu has proposed that Hamas release half the hostages to create conditions for negotiations on a permanent ceasefire and release of the remaining hostages.
In the poll, only 8% of respondents support this proposal. Another 12% oppose reaching any agreement with Hamas, including ending the war.
When asked why Netanyahu insists on a phased hostage deal, 49% of respondents believe his reasons are political; 36% believe he is motivated by security considerations.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) reported that on Wednesday (9th) in Washington, Netanyahu told the families of hostages that a comprehensive agreement to bring back all hostages at once is "absolutely not an option."
In addition, in the Channel 12 poll, 55% of respondents think Netanyahu's handling of the war in Gaza has been poor; 41% approve of his performance.
Netanyahu is facing domestic corruption charges, with the trial ongoing for several years. He may resign by reaching a plea deal, thus ending the trial.
According to the poll, 55% of respondents think Netanyahu should take this option; 34% hope he stays in office and runs in the next election.
