(US, 13th) Supporters of US President Trump have expressed dissatisfaction with Attorney General Bondi’s handling of the Epstein sexual assault case. Trump spoke up for her and advised his supporters not to be too fixated on the case.
According to Reuters, on Saturday (July 12), Trump posted a lengthy message on social media, attempting to unite his supporters. He said, “No one cares about” Epstein, and time or energy should not be wasted on his case.
Trump wrote: “Brothers and a few sisters, what’s gotten into you? Everyone is going after Attorney General Bondi, but she’s doing an outstanding job!”
He added: “We are a team, MAGA (Make America Great Again), and I don’t like what’s happening right now.”
The wealthy financier Epstein was arrested in 2019 on suspicion of trafficking and sexually assaulting underage girls. He later died in a New York detention facility, leading to ongoing speculation about the circumstances of his death.
Trump and some senior law enforcement officials had previously promised to release a “client list” exposing the crimes and truth behind Epstein’s death. Some believe the list would show Epstein blackmailed well-known elites, and speculate that Epstein may have been killed to keep him quiet.
This year, the US Department of Justice indicated that files related to Epstein had been declassified, including his personal contact book and contact lists.
However, on Monday (7th), the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice released a joint memo, claiming there is no evidence to support longstanding conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death and the supposed “client list.”
The memo stated that after reviewing over 300GB of data, there was no client list that could result in criminal charges, nor any evidence that Epstein blackmailed high-profile individuals.
The memo also confirmed the FBI’s prior findings that Epstein died by suicide, not by homicide or another criminal act.
According to political news site Politico, some of Trump’s most influential allies have accused Bondi of mishandling the Epstein investigation and have called for her removal as attorney general. These include far-right activist Laura Loomer and billionaire Musk, who recently fell out with Trump, both of whom have criticized Bondi and FBI Director Patel over the outcome of the Epstein case.
US media outlets FOX News and NBC reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bangino has clashed with Bondi over Epstein issues and is considering resigning.
Bangino is also a conservative. He and Patel have issued statements about Epstein’s “client list” and have frequently hinted that the government is withholding information on the case from the American public.
In February this year, FOX News asked Bondi whether the Justice Department would release Epstein’s “client list.” She responded: “(The list) is right now on my desk, awaiting review.”
However, on Tuesday (8th), she retracted this statement at the White House. She told reporters that she was referring to the entire Epstein case “file,” as well as other files related to the assassinations of President Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King.
