(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) has denied sending a text message that is currently widely circulating online. The message claims to be from the police and requests the public to pay fines related to traffic violations.

The Royal Brunei Police Force emphasized that the text message is false information and was not issued by any police department.

Police pointed out that such messages are a form of online scam, aimed at tricking the public into providing personal information or defrauding them of money.

To prevent being scammed, police remind the public not to click on any links in such messages, as those links may lead to misuse of phones, electronic devices, and personal information by criminals.

Police also urge the public to stay vigilant at all times, not to disclose personal information easily, and to verify the authenticity with relevant authorities upon receiving any suspicious messages.

In addition, police advise anyone who has received such messages and made payments, or who has related information, to immediately call the 993 emergency hotline or contact the Anti-Scam Helpline at 16993 so that further action can be taken.
