(Kuching, 2nd) The Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office (SUPS) is currently coordinating relevant information to prepare a development proposal for the establishment of a Federal Government Shared Building (BGKP) in Serian.
Datuk Seri John Sikie, Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, stated that this move is a follow-up action based on SUPS's assessment of the need for such a facility in the Serian area.
“According to the survey results, a proposal for setting up the BGKP has been preliminarily prepared,” he noted during his concluding statement at the State Legislative Assembly meeting yesterday (December 1).
However, John Sikie explained that the proposal still needs to undergo several procedures and further refinement before being submitted to the Federal Prime Minister's Department and the Ministry of Economy for consideration, in order to obtain funding under the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan’s Rolling Plan 2 (2027).
He further pointed out that Project Management Division 5 and the Malaysian Public Works Department (PWD) conducted a site visit and assessment of the proposed location on September 25, 2025.
“The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the current condition of the proposed site, and subsequently update and submit a preliminary cost estimate, also factoring in the implementation costs of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and seismic requirements,” he said.
John Sikie stated that SUPS is currently completing all necessary information so that the development proposal document can be submitted to the Federal Prime Minister's Department.
