(Kuching, 2nd) Since 1992, a total of 18,233 cases have been registered with the Sarawak Native Court, of which 13,763 cases (about 75%) have been resolved.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai stated that this achievement reflects the dedication and integrity displayed by the presiding judges of the Native Court in handling cases involving complex customary law and sensitive community matters.
In his ministerial wrap-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly yesterday (December 1), he pointed out: "The Sarawak Native Court continues to demonstrate commendable performance in fulfilling its judicial responsibilities. Our presiding judges have consistently shown dedication, diligence, and integrity in managing cases."
John Sikie emphasized that the steadfast commitment of the presiding judges demonstrates the state government's ongoing efforts to uphold judicial justice, strengthen the management of native laws, and safeguard the rights and interests of Sarawak's diverse communities.
As of October this year, a total of 18,233 cases have been registered at all levels of the Sarawak Native Court since 1992. Of these, 4,470 cases (about 25%) remain at various stages of hearing.
He added: "The Sarawak Native Court is making every effort to ensure that these unresolved cases can be resolved in a timely and efficient manner."
