Alan Tam Cares About Hong Kong Fire, Leads Malaysian Fans to Donate Over 650,000

After nearly 8 years away from the Malaysian stage, Alan Tam, a legendary icon in the Chinese music scene, made his return, instantly igniting the youthful memories of over 10,000 live spectators with a succession of classic hits spanning decades. As soon as each melody began, the whole stadium became a massive throwback scene, glow sticks swaying to the rhythm and voices shaking the roof, turning Bukit Jalil Axiata Arena into a universe of Mandarin hits from the 80s and 90s. The crowd was beyond excited—even Alan Tam himself couldn’t help but repeatedly exclaim, “You’re crazy! You’re really crazy!” The atmosphere hit its peak.

Alan Tam opened the show with “Legend of the Water” (a fusion of his hit “Water Flower” and Li Jian’s original “Legend”), which brought the whole arena to a boil. He excitedly greeted fans: “Did you all miss me? How much did you miss me?” When he saw fans coming closer with flowers, he joked, “Go back to your seats first! I’ll give you time to give me flowers later.” He cheekily added, “You’re giving flowers just ‘cause you want to take photos, right?” then fully played along, making the audience erupt in laughter.

Recently, a severe level-5 fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, causing many to lose their homes or families. During the concert’s intermission, Alan Tam became solemn as he mentioned the disaster and called on fans to lend a helping hand. He said: “Natural disasters or man-made calamities are really tough. Spiritual support from everyone is very important.” The audience immediately turned off their glow sticks and turned on mobile phone lights, each point of light becoming a sign of hope for the disaster victims.

Alan Tam then led by example, personally donating 300,000 ringgit; the organizer Star Art Entertainment added 200,000 ringgit, and enthusiastic fans’ contributions brought the total to 655,373 ringgit, all donated to the Hong Kong SAR government's "Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Relief Fund," fully reflecting the global village spirit of helping those in need.

Though already 75, Alan Tam was in full force on stage, singing, dancing, chatting—his energy unaffected, as steady as a walking CD. The fans were just as lively, most of them over fifty, but they sang and danced, turning the stadium into a giant “uncle and auntie throwback party.” Classics like "Love in Late Autumn," "Mist's Love," "More Love More Pain," "Half Dream Half Awake," and "Love of a Lifetime" had the entire crowd in mass singalong, while “Summer Chill Wind,” “Storm Goddess,” and “Kara Forever OK” got the older crowd on their feet, dancing wildly.

In addition, Alan Tam invited Tai Chi band’s lead singer Danny Lei on stage to duet in “You Always Encourage Me” and “Red Sports Car.” He joked, “The Wynners are the only band in the world never to change members, but the Wynners said farewell last year, so maybe Tai Chi, who are still on their 40th anniversary tour, will break this record.”
