(China, 13th) The first flood of the year has appeared in the Yellow River.
The official website of China’s Ministry of Water Resources announced on Sunday (October 12) evening that due to rainfall, tributaries of the middle reaches of the Yellow River—specifically the Fen River and the Wei River—have experienced floods exceeding warning levels, and a significant flood process has occurred in the main stream of the Yellow River’s middle reaches.
The official website of the Yellow River Water Conservancy Committee later announced that, affected by the combined inflow from the Wei River and the main northern stream of the Yellow River, the Tongguan Hydrological Station of the Yellow River recorded a peak flow rate of 5,010 cubic meters per second at 11 p.m. on Sunday, and the water level is expected to continue rising. According to the 'National Major Rivers Flood Numbering Regulations', the criteria for numbering a flood have been met, thus forming the Yellow River’s No. 1 flood of 2025.
The official website of the Ministry of Water Resources also stated that, according to hydrological conditions and rainfall forecasts, around Wednesday (the 15th), the Yellow River will see a peak flow rate of about 6,000 cubic meters per second.
The Ministry launched a Level IV emergency flood defense response for the provinces of Shanxi, Henan, and Shaanxi on Sunday evening, and has successively dispatched three work groups to the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River to assist and guide flood control work.
