(Miri, 8th) Sarawak Fan Clan Association Chairman Fan Chang'an stated that gatherings and the bonds among clan members are hard-won, and should therefore be cherished. He encouraged everyone to value their connection and fate, and to make the clan association an important platform for uniting kinship and mutual support.
He expressed these sentiments yesterday during his speech at the Chinese New Year luncheon and elderly appreciation event organized by the Sarawak Fan Clan Association North Sarawak Liaison Office.
He said that since the establishment of the Sarawak Fan Clan Association in 2017, it is about to reach its important ten-year milestone, and he called on clan members in various locations to remain united, to treasure the hard-earned kinship, and to continue developing and strengthening the association in the future.
Fan Chang'an expressed gratitude to the many clan members who, in the early days before the association was founded, made great efforts to connect clan members in different areas. Starting from Sibu, they traveled to Bintulu, Miri, and even Marudi, contacting clan members one by one and gradually uniting the clan's strength into what it is today.
"It is precisely because of the hard work and perseverance of our predecessors that we are able to gather here today. This is not only an honor, but also a bond to be cherished."
He called on all clan members to always be grateful, to thank the elder generation for laying the foundation of the association, and to continue working together so that the Fan Clan Association can keep growing in every region as a vital platform for kinship and cultural heritage.
He also encouraged more interaction and contact among clan members, noting that they need not wait for large-scale gatherings to meet— even casual encounters in daily life are opportunities for greetings and connections, further strengthening the bonds among clan members.
Fan Chang'an also highly praised the younger generation of leaders among the Miri Fan clan. He noted that, with the enthusiasm of local clan members, more opportunities have arisen for gatherings and exchanges, injecting new vitality and hope into the clan association.
He encouraged the younger clan members to constantly improve their abilities and value, especially in the era of artificial intelligence. He emphasized the importance of continually acquiring new knowledge to integrate better into future societal development.
"Hard work is important, but even more important is to keep improving your value and abilities. Only through continuous learning and progress can you have a firm footing in society's future."
He also shared that, although he is already 47 years old, he is still actively studying AI-related courses, including AI programming, music creation, and video production, hoping to set an example and encourage young people to keep advancing and growing.
Furthermore, he wished the senior clan members good health and happiness, encouraging everyone to maintain a positive outlook, enjoy life, and participate more in travel and exchange activities to enrich their lives.
On another note, Fan Nengyi, chairman of the preparatory committee for the Chinese New Year luncheon and elderly appreciation event of the Sarawak Fan Clan Association North Sarawak Liaison Office, said that the Chinese New Year gathering is not only an important moment for continuing Chinese traditional culture, but also a vital platform for strengthening clan ties and promoting ancestral virtues and family values.
He said the elderly appreciation segment today further embodies the excellent tradition of respecting the elderly and the wise, and always remembering our roots. He hopes the younger generation will carry forward the legacy, allowing the Fan family values to be passed down and constantly renewed.
He also welcomed clan members and distinguished guests from Kuching, Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu, Marudi and other distant places, gathering in Miri during the Spring Festival to participate in the New Year luncheon and elderly appreciation event.
"Everyone has made the effort to attend, adding splendor and warmth to this great event, and fully demonstrating the deep bonds and unity of the Fan clan."
He expressed gratitude to all the regional clan associations for their strong support and cooperation, as well as their generous contributions and assistance, enabling the event to be organized smoothly and successfully. Such camaraderie is truly precious and worthy of being cherished and passed on.
