Waste Turned into Wealth Buy-Back Program Well Received Miri Green Recycling Activity Rescheduled

(Miri, 8th) Miri Mayor Yii Siu Shin stated that the “2026 Miri City Waste-to-Wealth Buy-Back Activity” held at the Miri Community Green Center has received an encouraging response. This is the third time the event has been held this year, demonstrating the community’s growing participation in environmental recycling and resource reuse.

She made this statement yesterday afternoon while inspecting the “2026 Miri City Waste-to-Wealth Buy-Back Activity” at the Miri Community Green Center behind the Yakin commercial area.

She said that the event was originally scheduled to be held once every month, on the first week of every month. However, after communicating with participating citizens and relevant units, the organizers decided to adjust the schedule: starting from April this year, the event date will be changed to the last weekend of each month to facilitate greater participation from working individuals and families.

Yii Siu Shin pointed out that the “Waste-to-Wealth” program not only encourages citizens to bring recyclable materials to the buy-back center, but also aims to promote community environmental awareness through concrete action, allowing resources to be better reused and reducing the amount of waste going into landfills.

She calls upon citizens to actively participate in recycling by bringing recyclable items such as paper, plastics, and metals from their homes to the buy-back event site, and to exchange them for cash or points—truly putting the “waste turned into wealth” concept into practice.

She said the City Council will continue to support similar community environmental activities in the future, joining hands with all parties to promote the development of a green city and create a cleaner and more livable environment in Miri.
