(Miri, 8th) Miri Mayor Yu Xiaoshan stated that Chinese New Year gatherings not only symbolize reunion and blessings, but also embody the spirit of unity, mutual assistance, and cultural succession in Chinese culture. Clan associations have always played an important role in uniting kinship, promoting ancestral virtues, and advancing cultural heritage.
He said that Chinese New Year gatherings are highly significant traditional activities for the Chinese nation, symbolizing not only reunion and blessings, but also unity and inheritance. As important organizations within the Chinese community, clan associations have played key roles over the years in connecting kin, promoting ancestral virtues, and fostering cultural heritage. They have also contributed greatly to social harmony and development.
He remarked that Respect-for-the-Elderly events are even more meaningful. Respecting the elderly and valuing the wise are core values of Chinese culture. The life experiences and perseverance of seniors are invaluable assets and role models for the younger generation to learn from. Through such activities, not only is respect for elders expressed, but the culture of filial piety is also continued.
He also praised the organizing committee and all board members for their attentive planning, as well as the enthusiastic participation and support from clan members. It is precisely because of everyone’s unity and cooperation that such a warm and meaningful gathering can be held.
Yu Xiaoshan expressed that, as Mayor, he looks forward to clan organizations continuing to maintain good cooperation with municipal authorities, working together to promote community building, public welfare projects, and cultural exchanges, making the city more harmonious, diverse, and progressive.
