Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang stated that the memorandum of understanding signed by Malaysia and China marks a strategic breakthrough in Malaysia's technological innovation ecosystem.
"Collaboration with China will open doors to globally leading technology for Malaysia, promoting technology transfer. This initiative also aligns with the Malaysian government's innovation-based economic transformation, creating more high-skill job opportunities for the public."
Coinciding with Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Malaysia, the governments of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday (16th), aiming to support the establishment of joint laboratories in the field of emerging technologies.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) announced last night in a press release that, witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar and President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, Minister Chang Lih Kang and the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, conducted the signing and exchange ceremony of the memorandum.
The signing of this memorandum of understanding aims to support the joint establishment of laboratories by research institutions, universities, and enterprises, promoting cooperation in the field of emerging technologies and advancing the development of the technology industry. The areas of emerging technology cooperation include:

The announcement indicated that the establishment of joint laboratories is not just an extension of technological cooperation but will also serve as a platform to promote the development of high-value-added industries. The Malaysian government is committed to promoting innovation-based economic transformation, creating more high-skill job opportunities, and this cooperation will support the achievement of this goal.
Additionally, MOSTI and China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation on the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
The objective of this memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the research, development, and application of technologies based on the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, covering important fields such as agriculture, logistics, finance, and manufacturing.
The announcement continued to indicate that this cooperation provides opportunities for research institutions, universities, and enterprises to develop intelligent applications based on satellite data.
Through this cooperation, Malaysia will accelerate technology transfer and use the BeiDou system to enhance the local Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) ecosystem, driving the progress of the national digitalization process.
The announcement indicated that the memorandum of understanding signed between Malaysia and China reflects the Malaysian government's firm commitment to strengthening bilateral STI cooperation, contributing to enhancing Malaysia's position in the international technology community and expanding expertise in high-impact technology fields.
