Malaysia and China emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Asia-Pacific, avoiding actions that could endanger regional security and harm all parties, and jointly committed to the importance of an open and inclusive regional framework.
The two countries agreed to maintain efforts to keep Southeast Asia as a region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, in accordance with the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone, contributing to global disarmament, non-proliferation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
According to a joint statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two countries believe that peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific are hard-won and deserve to be cherished.
Both countries highly appreciate the ASEAN-China relationship and reiterated their commitment to jointly implement the Joint Statement of the ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations 30th Anniversary Commemorative Summit, building the “Five Homes” of peace, tranquility, prosperity, beauty, and friendship between ASEAN and China, promoting new progress in the ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership, constructing a closer ASEAN-China Community of Shared Future to benefit the people of ASEAN and China.
The statement pointed out that the two countries will strengthen coordination and cooperation under the APEC framework, jointly advancing the comprehensive and balanced implementation of the Putrajaya Vision 2040, and promoting the construction of an Asia-Pacific community; Malaysia supports China’s hosting of the APEC Informal Leaders’ Meeting in 2026.
“The two countries are committed to promoting regional economic integration, will push for the high-quality implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), continue efforts towards the signing and implementation of the upgraded protocol of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0 version as soon as possible; Malaysia supports Hong Kong joining RCEP.”
In addition, China appreciates Malaysia's initiatives such as the “China-ASEAN-GCC” cooperation, considering these initiatives to reflect open regionalism, which is conducive to maintaining international and regional economic and financial stability, and beneficial to the coordinated development of various regions in Asia; Malaysia looks forward to the presence of senior Chinese representatives at relevant meetings.
China also highly appreciates Malaysia's important role in advancing ASEAN-China cooperation, highly evaluates Malaysia's contribution as the coordinator for ASEAN-China relations, and firmly supports Malaysia in assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
Both sides reaffirm their commitment to the principles, shared values, and norms reflected in the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, jointly maintaining ASEAN centrality, supporting ASEAN in strengthening ASEAN-led cooperative mechanisms, and promoting an open and inclusive regional architecture, maintaining regional peace and stability, and promoting regional development and prosperity.
