(City Report, 23rd) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei will attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 26 to 27.
As this year's ASEAN Chair, Malaysia has set the summit theme as "Inclusivity and Sustainability", highlighting ASEAN's commitment to ensuring regional resilience and prosperity, and strengthening cooperation to address emerging global challenges and external pressures.
In addition to the 46th ASEAN Summit, leaders from ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China will also hold the second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 27.
The summit will continue to promote cooperation on the implementation of priority areas and key outcomes during Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, and under the guidance of common principles, values, and commitments, enhance closer relations among ASEAN, the GCC, and China; emphasize the importance of multilateralism, regional solidarity, and international law in addressing shared challenges; and maintain ASEAN's centrality in the evolving regional architecture to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
The 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit will also be held during the 46th ASEAN Summit.
BIMP-EAGA was established by Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines in 1994, aiming to promote the development of remote and underdeveloped areas, focusing on developing competitive and more environmentally friendly manufacturing; creating sustainable, competitive, and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries, and promoting tourism development.
