(Si City, 12th) To further broaden educators’ humanistic horizons and integrate multicultural experiences into classroom teaching, Honghua School Chairperson Lv Shiyun and School Supervisor Zheng Shijuan, under the arrangements of Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College, visited the Guangyuyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum to participate in a unique cultural experience activity on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
As an important part of this Chinese education professional development course, the visiting team members systematically learned about the thousand-year development of TCM, classic diagnostic and treatment concepts, and the techniques of preparing medicinal materials within the museum. Guided by professional interpreters, the teachers observed traditional pharmaceutical tools and precious medical classics up close, deeply feeling the profound heritage of TCM as a treasure of Chinese civilization.
In addition to visiting and learning, the participants also engaged in immersive hands-on experiences—personally making hawthorn pills and traditional Chinese medicinal sachets. From identifying medicinal materials, grinding and mixing, to shaping the pills and sewing the sachets, everyone experienced the essence of “genuine medicinal materials” and “craftsmanship in pharmaceutical making” through each step, creating a lively and focused atmosphere on site.
School Supervisor Zheng Shijuan stated that this experience not only provided the team members with fresh TCM knowledge, but also inspired them to reflect on the value of “experiential learning.” “Education should not be limited to textbooks. Personal participation in cultural practices can spark students’ curiosity and sensory perception. We will bring these vivid examples and teaching methods back to Malaysia to enrich our school’s cross-cultural curriculum design.”
Chairperson Lv Shiyun also emphasized that Honghua School is always committed to cultivating the next generation with a global vision and cultural inclusiveness. “Traditional Chinese medicine is the crystallization of wisdom connecting history and the present, nature and life. We look forward to cooperating with more traditional Chinese cultural institutions in the future to create richer international exchange opportunities for teachers and students.”
This visit concluded successfully with a cheerful group photo. The teachers expressed that they will take this learning opportunity as a starting point to incorporate the concepts of holism and balance from TCM into their daily teaching, allowing children to feel the unique charm of traditional Chinese medicine.
