Self-written and self-directed, Stephen Chow’s latest epic, “Kung Fu Women’s Soccer,” has surpassed 2.2 billion RMB (about 1.3 billion MYR) at the Chinese box office and will be released simultaneously in Hong Kong and Malaysia on August 13. On the 8th, Stephen Chow led a group of cast members to attend the Hong Kong premiere, with his mother also appearing to show support.
As soon as Stephen appeared, he greeted the audience: “Hello to all my friends in Hong Kong, long time no see.” Carina Lau commented that although she knew the movie was a box office hit in China, she hadn’t watched it yet and was looking forward to seeing it in cinemas in Hong Kong. When asked about this collaboration with both new and old actors, Stephen Chow highly praised Carina Lau, saying: “Her looks are just like the newcomers, but her experience is... truly impressive.” Stephen emphasized that every actor in the film is outstanding, and as the director he “basically had nothing to do”, especially since Carina Lau always understood what he wanted: “Sister Carina, honestly, every time I was about to give her direction, saying, ‘Sister Carina, for this scene…’ she’d say, ‘Alright, no need to say more.’” Carina immediately protested, waving her finger and said: “I never said that! You saying this is ruining my image. I’m always very obedient on set. Although you’re my friend, on set you’re the director, and I respect that a lot.
