Sarawak Immigration Bureau Bintulu Operation: 27 Illegal Immigrants Detained

(Bintulu, 29th) The Sarawak Malaysia Immigration Bureau (JIM) detained a total of 27 illegal foreign entrants (PATI) in two enforcement actions carried out in Bintulu this Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Sarawak Immigration Bureau, the two joint enforcement operations, named “Ops Sapu” (Raiding Operation) and “Ops Minyak” (Petrol Station Operation), were conducted by the Security and Enforcement Monitoring Team (UPKP) involving eight officers, following intelligence and ongoing surveillance.
The statement reads: “Ops Sapu was carried out from midnight to 5 a.m., targeting three suspected rental houses sheltering illegal immigrants.
“Ops Minyak was conducted from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., focusing on two commercial premises— a car wash and an auto detailing center.”
The enforcement results show that a total of 19 Indonesian nationals (including 9 females and 10 males), as well as 8 Bangladeshi males, were detained.
The statement pointed out: “They are suspected of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 15(1)(c) (overstaying) and Section 6(1)(c) (without valid travel documents).
“All detainees have been placed at the Bintulu Bekenu Immigration Detention Centre for further investigation.”
Additionally, authorities discovered two locals (a male from Peninsular Malaysia and a female) at the scene during the raid. However, they were not arrested but were issued witness subpoenas to assist in investigations.
The Sarawak Immigration Bureau also reminds the public, especially employers, to ensure that all hired foreign workers possess valid travel documents and approved work permits.
The statement emphasized: “Anyone who neglects or intentionally hires undocumented foreign workers will face heavy fines, imprisonment, and even court prosecution. Enforcement will not compromise.
“Similar enforcement actions will continue to be strengthened to combat issues of illegal entry and stay, thereby safeguarding the state’s security and public order.”
