(Mukah, 31st) The crime index in Mukah police district dropped by 11.21% from January to October this year compared to the same period last year, demonstrating significant results in the prevention and enforcement efforts of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the area.
Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Riza Alias, stated that as of October this year, 190 criminal cases had been reported, a decrease of 24 cases from the 214 recorded during the same period last year.
“These figures reflect the positive outcomes of ongoing police prevention and enforcement actions, and also prove the effectiveness of strategies implemented up to October this year. Additionally, the police have achieved significant success in combating cable and transformer theft cases in the Mukah area,” he said.
Mohd Riza pointed out that as of October this year, the Criminal Investigation Unit of Mukah police had arrested nine suspects involved in cable and transformer theft, successfully solving six cases. These achievements were attributed to the officers’ rapid response and close cooperation.
“I extend my congratulations to my colleagues in the Criminal Investigation Unit. Their swift actions have yielded outstanding results,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Mukah district Narcotics Division also successfully carried out various operations from January to October this year, resulting in the arrest of 233 individuals and the seizure of 157.28 grams of methamphetamine (ice).
Of these, 12 cases have been prosecuted in court under Sections 39C(1) and 39C(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with eight defendants sentenced to between 5 and 13 years’ imprisonment and given between 1 and 6 strokes of the cane, depending on the severity of the crime.
Mohd Riza pointed out that these achievements show police have not only cracked down on drug abusers and traffickers but have also succeeded in dismantling broader drug supply networks.
He also reminded all police officers not to become complacent and to keep intensifying efforts against drug abuse.
On another note, commercial crime statistics in the Mukah area also saw an 8.25% decrease, with 100 cases recorded from January to October this year, a reduction of nine cases from last year’s 109.
The police successfully arrested 62 individuals, including several long-term fugitives on the wanted list.
“The decrease in commercial crime is due to increased public awareness, improved investigation efficiency, and strategic cooperation between the public and the police. I urge everyone to maintain this momentum, as commercial crimes will continue to evolve with technological advancements,” he said.
