Chinese male star Yang Yang’s new drama Bu Rang Jiang Shan has been rife with controversy since its first day of filming. Rumors spread that the crew had dual scripts, had given all of the lead male scenes to a supporting actor, and had even cut the romance line with the female lead. Yang Yang was subsequently rumored to have left the set after the start-of-filming ceremony in protest. However, after the crew issued a statement refuting these rumors, Yang Yang returned to the set two days later. While the issue seemed to have calmed on the surface, fans continued their vocal protests, including claims that during the start-of-filming ceremony Yang Yang’s hand brace had been removed while his injury was not yet healed. Online sources claimed it was forcibly removed for filming, leaving his whole hand visibly swollen and red.
Yang Yang soon posted a message to show support for the crew and refute the rumors, clarifying that his hand injury originated from an accident at the end of last year and had nothing to do with the current filming. He stated his recovery was going well and that he was following the doctor's instructions for regular rehabilitation. Yet, the top comment under his post came from a netizen accusing Yang Yang's agent Jia Shikai of impersonating him to publish the statement. Fans then posted photos of Yang Yang’s injured hand taken on set for comparison, noting that his whole hand appeared swollen compared to previous images. Many netizens commented that it’s uncertain how long these controversies will continue.
