(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) The Royal Brunei Police Force (PPDB), under its Marine Police (POLMAR) unit, successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle contraband into Brunei waters during a routine patrol last Sunday.
During the patrol, the marine police detected two vessels acting suspiciously. Subsequently, the marine police, in cooperation with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), launched a joint operation to track these two vessels.
Eventually, one unmanned vessel was discovered in the mangrove area. Upon inspection, 500 boxes of contraband and five different types of cigarettes were found on board. All seized items, including the vessel, have been handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further processing.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006.
The Royal Brunei Police Force will continue to strengthen patrols and surveillance to ensure the security of the nation's waters and protect against any criminal activity. At the same time, the public is also urged to provide any information related to criminal activity via the emergency hotline 993.
