South Korean superstar group BTS member SUGA (Min Yoongi) has just completed his alternative military service, and only days after his discharge, news broke of his generous act—he donated a record-breaking 5 billion KRW (about 15.6 million RM) to collaborate with Severance Hospital in Korea to help children with autism. The groundbreaking ceremony for the treatment center was held on the 23rd, drawing widespread praise.
Known for his commitment to public welfare, SUGA pays special attention to issues such as youth mental health and depression. Last November, he contacted Professor Chun Geun-ah, a leading authority in pediatric psychiatry at Severance Hospital. After multiple meetings, he came to understand that autism patients require long-term and individualized care. As a result, he decided to donate 5 billion KRW to jointly establish a dedicated treatment center to support people with autism.
From March to June this year, SUGA participated in the development of the program over weekends, personally playing guitar and other instruments, teaching children with autism how to harmonize, and helping them express their emotions and language abilities through music. He stated, "During these more than seven months preparing the courses and participating in volunteering activities with Professor Chun, I deeply realized that music can be an important bridge between the mind and the world. Being able to take part in the children's treatment is my greatest gratitude and happiness. I will continue striving to help more children integrate into society and become a part of us."
