Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar stated that whether to deploy troops to guard the border between Thailand and Cambodia for border security will be decided by ASEAN member states.
He said that currently, although the border situation is very sensitive and tense, it is still under control.
“This is not easy, especially when killings and shootings occur. It takes time to ease the tense atmosphere and anger.”
“At present, we are using satellites to assist with monitoring, and they have also agreed for Malaysian defense attachés to coordinate this matter, while ASEAN countries’ defense attachés are also supervising remotely.”
“Is it necessary to station troops? This will be decided later. Whether a permanent garrison is needed? This too will be decided by ASEAN countries later.”
He said that currently the two countries are only requesting Malaysia to coordinate.
