Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar stated that the Thailand-Cambodia General Boundary Commission (GBC) meeting is being held starting today until Thursday in the capital Kuala Lumpur, and it is expected that the two countries can reach an agreement by Thursday.

“I have contacted all ASEAN leaders to seek their mandate and support, and they all agreed to appoint their own defense attachés to continue monitoring the situation and participate in the meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, with our country's defense attaché coordinating cooperation among all ASEAN defense attachés.”

He said that the United States and China will attend as observers, and he hopes this meeting can produce a consensus and solution, as this not only affects the relationship between the two countries, but also ASEAN’s reputation.

He said this today (5th) during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in Parliament, in response to a question from Sarawak Alliance Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee regarding Malaysia’s role in mediating the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire agreement.

“We hope some consensus points coordinated by Malaysia can be reached before or on the 7th of this month, as on that day the Defense Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand will attend the meeting together, hoping to obtain a final solution, at least to stop military action, to ensure that no further regulations are violated, including in disputed border areas.

He said that all these issues must be attempted to resolve via negotiations, and thanked the governments of Cambodia and Thailand for showing a very positive attitude towards reaching a final solution.
