(Bandar Seri Begawan, 2nd) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei held bilateral talks with Vietnam's President Luong Cuong yesterday.
Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan was his son, Prince Mateen.
During the meeting, His Majesty noted that since the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2019, the two countries have made significant progress in the areas of trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges, with bilateral relations continuing to strengthen.
His Majesty stated that both countries have benefited from the Comprehensive Partnership Action Plan and looks forward to further deepening this partnership in the coming year.
Speaking on the economic front, His Majesty welcomed deeper cooperation between enterprises of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Brunei’s oil and gas sector.
He also emphasized the hope to further strengthen economic ties in the agricultural and aquaculture sectors, particularly in ensuring food security for the common interests of both countries.
Furthermore, His Majesty welcomed Vietnam's deepened collaboration in the halal industry.
In conclusion, His Majesty expressed his belief that the agreements signed during this state visit would drive continued development of bilateral relations, and invited Luong Cuong to make a state visit to Brunei.

Vietnam and Brunei officially established diplomatic relations on February 29, 1992. Over the last thirty years, the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries have continued to flourish. In 2019, during His Majesty the Sultan’s state visit to Vietnam, both sides agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, marking an important milestone in the relationship.
Elevating the Vietnam–Brunei relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership was an extremely significant development, reflecting an upgrade in both scale and quality, as well as demonstrating both countries’ leaders’ joint determination to push for in-depth cooperation and practical results, in line with new international and regional circumstances and development trends.
The Vietnam–Brunei Comprehensive Partnership has seen prominent progress in key areas such as political-security ties, trade and investment, and people-to-people diplomacy. The two countries maintain close and effective coordination in regional and international forums and organizations, providing mutual support on major regional and international issues of common concern at ASEAN, the United Nations, and other international platforms.
Additionally, bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to develop, becoming a key foundation for the relationship. Cooperation in defense and security has also yielded positive results, especially in the implementation of memoranda of understanding on defense and multi-sector cooperation.
The Vietnamese community in Brunei plays an important bridging role, facilitating exchanges in trade, culture, and people-to-people contact between the two nations. Vietnamese is also the only Southeast Asian language included in Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) curriculum, attracting a growing number of Bruneian students.
The two countries have enormous potential for cooperation in renewable energy transition, green economy, and circular economy, which align with current trends of emission reduction and sustainable development. The digital economy, science and technology, and innovation are also promising directions for future cooperation.
