(Miri, 23rd) Chiew Choon Man, Member of Parliament for Miri, pointed out that under the guidance of the 'Holistic Education' philosophy, the government is committed to creating a comprehensive educational system. Sports are an indispensable component that helps cultivate students' discipline, sense of responsibility, and team spirit.
“I encourage parents to continue supporting their children's participation in various extracurricular activities, allowing them to shine academically and explore potential in other fields.” he said.
Chiew Choon Man emphasized, “The old saying 'A healthy body leads to a flexible mind' is still applicable in students' lives today.” He pointed out that regular participation in sports activities not only helps improve learning performance but also contributes to mental health, promoting the holistic development of students.
“I want to remind every student that winning or losing is not the sole purpose of competition. More important are the spirit of participation, teamwork, and the courage to constantly challenge oneself. These experiences will become invaluable treasures in your life.”
He delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the 56th athletics games of SMK Lutong, affirming the school's efforts in promoting sports education and encouraging students to develop in morality, intellect, and physique to grow into versatile young adults in the new era.
He stated that sports are not merely a competitive activity but a crucial platform for cultivating students' confidence, cooperative spirit, and resilience.
“SMK Lutong has consistently excelled in the field of sports, having nurtured several outstanding athletes at the state and national levels over the years, a pride of Miri.”
He also added that as a staunch supporter of the school's long-term development, he continues to assist in securing relevant funding, including a RM100,000 allocation in 2023 for constructing a covered walkway; a RM50,000 allocation in 2024 for purchasing furniture and teaching equipment; and striving for a RM100,000 allocation in 2025 for infrastructure development of Block F.
“I will continue to pay attention to the development needs of SMK Lutong and strive to secure more resources to help the school create a better learning and growth environment.”
Previously, Principal Chen Minghe of SMK Lutong stated in a speech that sports are not only a stage for competition but also an important opportunity to display discipline, cooperative spirit, and perseverance. He hopes to discover more potential young athletes through the school's sports event platform and create opportunities for them to reach higher stages, even representing the country in various competitions.
He pointed out that sports activities are crucial for the overall development of students, not only strengthening the body but also honing the will and shaping character.
“The sports event is not just a competition, but a significant reflection of the school's mission in education. The transmission of the sports spirit is a key to promoting the all-around development in ethics, intellect, and physical fitness.”
He particularly emphasized the critical role of parents in the growth process of their children. He called on parents to continue supporting their children's active participation in various extracurricular activities, assisting students in achieving outstanding results in fields beyond academics.
“Your sweat, effort, and perseverance on the field are the most precious spiritual assets of SMK Lutong. May we continue to work together to cultivate the next generation equipped with moral, intellectual, and physical excellence.”
Despite recent erratic weather, the enthusiasm of all teachers and students to participate in the activities has not diminished. He praised the cohesion and team spirit displayed by the teachers and students in successfully organizing this vibrant sports event, fully showcasing the school's vitality and cohesion.
He also particularly thanked the teachers and students involved in guiding the various sports projects, “Every team has undergone rigorous training, with countless efforts and sweat behind them, all to shine on the field and bring glory to the school.”
He also expressed gratitude towards Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man for his continued support and financial assistance to the school in terms of infrastructure construction and sports development. He hopes that Chiew Choon Man will continue to provide assistance in sports and extracurricular activities in the future, promoting continuous progress among students in all aspects.
