(Jakarta, 3rd) After receiving thousands of complaints regarding suspected persecution of specialist doctors, Indonesian Health Minister Budi revealed long-standing issues of corruption and persecution within the specialist doctor education program.
Health Minister Budi pointed out that most of the numerous complaints received by the Ministry of Health involve verbal and physical persecution. Investigations found that the so-called communication network groups have long become platforms for persecution between seniors and juniors.
In these groups, seniors systematically bully juniors, and this has been going on for years. In addition to verbal humiliation, this also includes various forms of physical punishment, such as forcing them to eat chili peppers, doing push-ups, or standing for long periods.
They even photograph or record the entire process and then upload it to the group for spreading. These actions reveal serious problems that urgently require reform in Indonesia's specialist doctor education system. Budi said: "Because we were asked to be transparent, we publicly released information. There has been persecution among prospective specialist doctors.
One common finding is the harassment via text messages within communication networks, sent by senior and junior students of the specialist doctor education program. It includes not only verbal harassment but also incidents of physical persecution, with the methods of persecution shared in the network messages."
