On May 2, Indonesia celebrates National Education Day. President Prabowo extended his highest respect to all teachers and educators across the country, thanking them for their dedication and efforts for the nation's children.
National Education Day is observed annually on May 2 to commemorate the birth of Indonesian national hero and "Father of National Education" Ki Hajar Dewantara.
President Prabowo attended the National Education Day celebration held at a state elementary school in Bogor City, West Java Province, where he reiterated his commitment to prioritize education development, including improving the welfare and quality of teachers nationwide.
“Thank you to all the teachers in Indonesia. Teachers truly are unsung heroes. Thank you for your dedication, keep it up. I will continue to focus on education issues,” he said.
Prabowo stated that education is a key driver of national revival and a foundation for the country’s continuous progress. Therefore, education always occupies the largest portion of the national budget. He also urged relevant parties to reflect on whether this substantial education budget is truly being implemented effectively.
He emphasized that many school facilities across the country remain dilapidated, and some schools even have only one toilet, severely affecting teaching quality. Repair of school buildings will continue to be a government priority. He also urged local leaders to personally visit and inspect the situation of school infrastructure, particularly those buildings no longer suitable for use.
“Perhaps we can only repair 11,000 schools now, but we will continue to increase the number of repairs in the future,” he said.
Additionally, the President announced that by mid-2026, all schools nationwide will be equipped with television devices provided by the government to promote education digitalization. This initiative particularly helps the educational development of 3T areas (underdeveloped, remote, and outermost regions).
He added that these televisions would enable students in remote areas to access quality resources and help narrow the urban-rural education gap. The government expects to start distributing the television equipment within the next two months and complete national coverage by mid-2026.
To support educational content dissemination, the President also plans to gather hundreds of top teachers to deliver classes at a central recording center, which will be broadcast across schools nationwide via the equipment.
Furthermore, Prabowo announced the launch of four strategic educational projects, which include school rehabilitation, educational digitalization, substitute teacher assistance, and educational grants for teachers who have yet to obtain a D4 or undergraduate (S1) degree.
Government officials attending the event included the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul, Deputy Minister of the Interior Ribka, Presidential Office Chief Putranto, and Cabinet Secretary Tedy.
