(Kuala Lumpur, 13th) Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, predicts that the days of relying on the United States as Malaysia’s main export market will eventually come to an end. Therefore, the government’s goal is to explore more markets, such as BRICS or African countries.
"The United States is no longer willing to import too many goods from our country or other Asian countries, so we need new markets and partners. We need to strengthen our ties with them, instead of continuing to rely on the traditional Western countries that have been our export targets."
He also revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar will visit African countries in November.
Liew Chin Tong made these remarks in Parliament while answering a supplementary question from Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Ku Abdul Rahman.
He continued by stating that Malaysia will sign a cooperation agreement with Brazil in the semiconductor sector and will also discuss similar agreements with India.
"We also have good relations with Bangladesh and Pakistan, which are all potential markets. In addition to imports and exports, we will also cooperate in technological fields."
