US media reports that the United States plans to use ongoing tariff negotiations to pressure trade partners to reduce their interactions with China.
Foreign media quoted a report published by The Wall Street Journal on the 16th. According to informed sources, US officials plan to request that in tariff negotiations with 70 countries, these countries prohibit China from transshipping goods through their territories and prevent Chinese companies from establishing themselves within their borders to circumvent US tariffs.
Currently, the US has imposed a 145% tariff on Chinese imported goods, and in retaliation, China has imposed a 125% tariff on US goods.
US President Trump has repeatedly expressed his willingness to negotiate with China and has stated that he has a good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but he also clarified that China must be proactive in negotiating with the US.
White House Press Secretary Levitt reiterated at a news conference on the 15th that Trump is willing to reach a trade agreement with China, but "the ball is in China’s court," and Beijing must take the initiative.
