"Due to China's retaliatory actions, Chinese goods exported to the US are now facing tariffs as high as 245%."
This was stated in the latest statement released by the White House on its official website on the 15th.
However, the maximum 245% tariff is clearly not a new concept.
According to an April 12 report by The New York Times, due to the constant changes in trade rules, tariffs can accumulate in certain cases.
The report provided an example where tariffs on syringes and needles from China are among the highest, and with an additional 100% tariff until 2025, the total tariff can reach up to 245%.
It is still unclear whether the 245% tariff statement by the White House and the report by The New York Times refer to the same issue.
On the 11th, China announced that starting April 12, it will impose a 125% tariff on all US goods exported to China, while also stating that if the US continues to impose tariffs on Chinese goods, China will not comply.
