(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) In conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan's 80th birthday celebration, the 'Pehin Temenggong Dato Lim Teck Hoo Memorial Cup 2026 All-Brunei Xiangqi Open Tournament' kicked off today at the Chung Hwa Middle School Wenbang Hall, gathering 28 players to interact and compete through chess skills.
This year's tournament is organized by the Brunei Xiangqi Association and co-organized by Chung Hwa Middle School, with three categories: Open, Secondary School, and Primary School. Among them, there are 6 players in the Open category, 16 in the Secondary School category, and 6 in the Primary School category.
The opening ceremony was attended by Brunei Xiangqi Association President Chan Sian Hock, Chairman of the Chung Hwa Middle School Board and Brunei Xiangqi Association Advisor Yang Teck Ching, Advisor Dato Seri Sim Wai Keong, guest Hsu Hsin, and others.
According to the schedule, the first four rounds of each group were held today, with student group awards presented at 4 pm. The remaining two rounds and the finals for the Open group will be moved to President Chan Sian Hock's residence next Sunday (July 26), with an award ceremony held at 7 pm that evening.
This year's tournament offers generous prizes: The Open champion will receive BND 400 and a trophy, 2nd place BND 300, 3rd place BND 200, and 4th to 6th place BND 100 each; Secondary School champion BND 120, 2nd place BND 100, 3rd to 6th place BND 80 each; Primary School champion BND 100, 2nd place BND 80, 3rd to 6th place BND 50 each.
