(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) Brunei Xiangqi Association President Chan Sian Foo encouraged all participants to uphold the mentality that “victory and defeat are common among soldiers”, to remain humble in victory and undaunted in defeat, to treat wins and losses with equanimity, and to continuously hone their chess skills and self-improvement through practice.
Chan Sian Foo made these remarks yesterday during the opening of the “Peh Sien Temenggong Dato Lim Teck Hoo Memorial Cup 2026 Brunei Xiangqi Open”.
He also expressed heartfelt thanks to Chung Hwa Middle School Brunei for providing the competition venue and to the organizing committee members for their cooperation, and especially extended gratitude to the event sponsor—the Peh Sien Temenggong Dato Lim Teck Hoo family—for their continuous financial support over the years, which has laid a solid foundation for the long-term hosting of the event.
He pointed out that this year’s tournament not only provides a stage for local chess players to showcase their skills, but also carries the important mission of promoting traditional Chinese chess culture. He hopes that the players will demonstrate good sportsmanship and skill, truly making friends through chess and advancing learning through competition.
Lastly, Chan Sian Foo called on all sectors of society to continue supporting the game of Xiangqi and to work together to promote the legacy of this intellectual sport in Brunei.
