Conflict Breaks Out at Pattaya Bar, Chinese Man Beaten to Death

According to Thai media reports, a violent incident occurred at an illegally operating bar in southern Pattaya, Thailand on the 7th, in which a Chinese man died after being beaten by multiple people inside the establishment.

Thailand Headline News Agency reported that the deceased was a 39-year-old man surnamed Chang, who suffered severe facial injuries, left eye swollen shut, lips torn, and multiple bruises on his body, and died inside the bar. According to preliminary statements from staff to the police, the deceased was intoxicated before the incident, and while playing billiards, he was looking for chalk powder to wipe his hands but couldn't find it. He then lost his temper, shouted loudly, and jumped onto the VIP area table, which upset the VIP customers. A chaotic conflict and physical altercation broke out between both sides.

During the incident, a group of employees tried to intervene and stop it, and the scene temporarily calmed down, but a second round of group fighting soon erupted, after which the victim collapsed and lost consciousness. After the incident, those involved fled the scene, while the bar initially remained silent, claiming to be unaware. Later, as someone noticed the victim's condition was deteriorating, they notified the police and emergency responders.

The Pattaya City Police stated that they did not fully accept the staff's account, and thus detained some employees for questioning, reviewed the bar's surveillance footage, investigated the identities of the involved VIP customers, and are tracking down the involved employees and customers to handle the case according to law. Police noted that the incident has had a negative impact on the image of the local tourist city.

An administrative investigation found that this entertainment venue did not have a business license and was operating illegally. The relevant authorities stated that a more detailed investigation will be carried out, and legal responsibility will be pursued against the bar's owner.

On the same day, police detained a total of 8 people from inside the bar and related personnel, including a 38-year-old Chinese man surnamed Chun (transliteration), a 23-year-old Burmese man named Akuang, and 6 Thai nationals.

After investigation, police determined that the incident was triggered by a drunken altercation between the deceased and others, following which he was beaten by multiple people, most of whom were bar employees. Police have filed charges against those involved for "jointly assaulting others resulting in death." If it is confirmed that the bar was operating without a license, the responsible operators will also be prosecuted according to law.
