In recent years, Christine Fan has been developing her career in China. She accepted an interview with Chinese media to share her mindset during the past six years of difficult times, including the passing of her father, mother, grandmother, uncle, and close friend Barbie Hsu one after another, as well as all kinds of online rumors and attacks. She said helplessly: “At first I really pounded my chest and stomped my feet. We are just ordinary, normal, kind people—why are we misunderstood and treated like devils? I prayed to God for strength, courage, and some energy to make myself feel that what I’m doing is right. I haven't let anyone down.”
Christine Fan no longer wants to explain much. “The more you explain, no matter how you explain, there will still be people who distort your thoughts. I choose not to respond at all. My response is in my songs.” She doesn’t read her negative news much anymore, preferring instead to watch dramas and look at crystals. Along the way, she is very grateful for the company of her husband Blackie and their twin sons, which is extremely important to her.
In the interview, Christine also mentioned that she is from Hebei, with her hometown in Shijiazhuang. “I hope one day I can go back to have authentic local dishes and hold a concert there — then my wish will have been fulfilled. I’m from Hebei, and I want this sense of identity to remain in everyone’s hearts. I need to recognize it myself, too. Being a child of China and singing for everyone is an extremely happy thing.” Christine said her father once told her their ancestral home was in Shenze County, Hebei Province. “Now I especially want to go back to Shijiazhuang to sing. When I was 6 or 7, I returned from the US to Taichung and lived in an air force family compound. When I was a child, I could eat Hebei dishes cooked by my maternal grandma and great-grandma. I really love noodles.”
