Malaysian Child Star Ye Zicheng Passes Away at Only 25; Friends in the Industry Mourn: Only Memories of Youth Remain

Malaysian actor Ye Zicheng, who rose to fame starring in the live-action film 'Ge Mei Liang Zhi Jing Li 48,' passed away due to illness on December 8 at the age of 25. His family confirmed the news on Ye Zicheng’s official social media account, stating he passed away peacefully on December 8, with a three-day wake at Nirvana Memorial Park and burial on the 11th.

From a young age, Ye Zicheng displayed remarkable acting talent. In 2013, at just 11 years old, he starred in the live-action film adaptation of comic artist Xu Youli's work, 'Ge Mei Liang Zhi Jing Li 48,' which was also Malaysia’s first live-action film based on a comic. In the movie, Ye Zicheng played the main character “Guoguo,” and his natural and lively acting was widely praised. Although the film’s box office performance was average, it gained a lot of positive feedback online. He later continued to showcase his passion for acting, playing 'Shuiguo' in director Zhong Shengzhong’s short film 'Worst Student? 2.'

The shocking news sent tremors through the local film and television industry; many directors and actors who had worked with him wrote online tributes, unable to hide their grief. Xu Youli, upon hearing the news, wrote on social media: “Heavens… Guoguo from the film is gone, I really can’t accept it right now.” He revealed that Ye Zicheng died of illness, saying it was sudden, and shared their last messages: “That was the blessing you sent me when I was undergoing heart surgery.” He lamented the brevity of their bond, “Now you are just 25… Heaven truly envies talent, what a great pity. You will always be Uncle’s live-action Guoguo in his heart.”

Singer Zhong Shengzhong wrote: “Wishing you a peaceful journey to a place without pain, only light. Thank you for giving your all as ‘Shuiguo’ in 'Worst Student? 2.'” He emphasized Ye Zicheng’s innocence and dedication, which made his characters vivid and touching.

Actor Ye Liangcai, who had worked with him in 'Ge Mei Liang,' also expressed his deep sorrow: “Those laughs, that chemistry, now only everlasting memories remain. Your talent and warmth—we will forever miss you.” Fellow child star and actress Lai Xuanying, who also worked on the film, wrote: “‘Ge Mei Liang’ is now only memories, but those were our most precious, most innocent times. May you be free from illness on the other side.”
