Veteran Hong Kong actor Ha Yu (Xu Shaoxiong) passed away from illness at the end of October. His widow, Lung Yan-yee, and daughter, Hui Jing, returned to Singapore to handle posthumous matters. In a media interview, Lung Yan-yee spoke for the first time about Ha Yu's actual condition and cause of death. She revealed that after having a tumor removed last year, his recovery had been going well—he always followed doctor’s orders, took his medication on time, and attended checkups. However, in mid-October this year, Ha Yu started feeling unwell and was hospitalized for tests. It was suddenly discovered that the cancer cells had spread to his lungs. At the same time, his body was hit by a bacterial infection, which led to multiple organ failure. He passed away after being in critical condition for two days.
Lung Yan-yee admitted that Ha Yu’s passing came as a great shock to the family, and he did not leave any final words. Tearfully, she said, “He didn’t leave any last words because he never thought he would go so soon!” She described feeling utterly emptied out, saying, “My whole mind is blank, it’s a feeling like being hollowed out completely.” Their daughter Hui Jing also said that she still cannot accept the reality of her father's passing, and sometimes, when taking family photos, she would unconsciously leave an empty spot for him.
When the topic turned to the leak of Ha Yu’s funeral details, both mother and daughter said they felt betrayed, criticizing those responsible as having no boundaries. Hui Jing added that the worst part was implicating her brother (Ha Yu’s stepson), who is usually low-key and rarely in the public eye—now, his eulogy had been made public, which was clearly disrespectful.
