Acting as Online Gambling Agent - Woman Fined RM2,500

(Miri, 9th) – A local woman was fined RM2,500 by the Miri Magistrate's Court after admitting to acting as a top-up agent for online gambling.
This 27-year-old woman pleaded guilty to charges under Section 7(2) of the 1953 Common Gaming Houses Act. The court ruled that if the fine is not paid, she will be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
Police stated that the woman had previously been held in custody for two days to assist in the investigation.
The offence took place at noon on February 26, when officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Miri District Police Headquarters conducted a raid.
The operation was led by an Inspector and took place at an unnumbered commercial kiosk on Pujut 1B Road.
Investigation revealed that the woman was suspected of using her mobile phone to provide online gambling account top-up services, allowing customers to top up their online betting accounts.
During the check, police seized a mobile phone suspected to have been used for transactions and RM34 in cash, believed to be linked to the illegal activity.
