Fighting Kidney Disease: Early Detection is Crucial

(Sibu, 9th) The public is reminded not to take kidney health lightly, as many patients often realize there is a problem only when their condition has reached a severe stage.
Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF) Chairman Dato Lau Lee Min stated that early detection through health screening is the most effective measure in combating chronic kidney disease.
"Many people only discover their kidney problems when the disease has already become serious."

"Therefore, kidney health awareness campaigns like today's play an important role in educating the public and encouraging regular health check-ups."
"Prevention is always better than cure. Early detection is of great significance in protecting kidney health," he said at the 2026 World Kidney Day celebration, held on Sunday (March 8) at the SKF venue. This year's theme is "Kidney Health For All—Caring for People, Safeguarding the Planet."
Apart from emphasizing prevention, Lau Lee Min also pointed out that since its establishment in 1993, SKF has served the community in Sibu and the central region for over thirty years, continuously dedicated to kidney health care.
As a non-profit welfare organization, SKF has always adhered to its mission, providing affordable dialysis treatment and medical support for those in need through the support of corporate partners and volunteers.

"Our mission has always been to enhance and prolong life through compassionate care and strong community support."
"However, this work cannot be done alone. The ongoing support from the community, sponsors, volunteers, and medical professionals enables the foundation to continue carrying out this important mission and help those in need," he said.
As a proactive measure, SKF offered multiple services during the event, including free health checks, special blood screening packages, professional talks, and medical consultations for patients and their families.
Also present and giving explanations was nephrologist Dr. Tiong Kung Ung, who shared his expertise on dialysis diet management and early-stage chronic kidney disease care.
