Hong Kong martial arts star Bruce Leung passed away on the 14th at the age of 77. On the evening of the 18th, his Douyin account posted a farewell to his fans, stating, “I’ve gone very far away to shoot a movie.” Bruce Leung had two marriages. His first wife was mixed-race singer Irene Ryder, and his second wife was Song Xiang, a girl from Northeast China who was 20 years younger than him. The two married in 1995 and had a son and a daughter, maintaining a stable relationship.

Bruce Leung rose to fame in the 1980s with “Chen Zhen,” then faded out of the entertainment industry for a while. He made a comeback at the strong invitation of Stephen Chow, playing the villain “Fire Cloud Evil God” in “Kung Fu.” However, when talking about Stephen Chow, Leung spoke with some dissatisfaction, mainly due to issues regarding his pay. Upon hearing of Bruce Leung’s passing on the 18th, Stephen Chow put aside past grievances and posted his photo on Instagram Stories, saying, “Forever cherishing Mr. Bruce Leung.”

Bruce Leung had two marriages. In 1975, he married Irene Ryder, but four years later, Ryder was suddenly attacked with strong acid, resulting in disfigurement. It is said that Bruce Leung, in order to treat his beloved wife, spent all of his savings—over 4 million HKD (about 2.08 million MYR) on multiple skin graft surgeries. Although the two eventually divorced, this act of devotion moved many.

In 1995, Bruce Leung remarried Song Xiang, who was 20 years younger, and they had a son and a daughter. Their family life was always considered happy and blissful. However, in 2018, Bruce Leung, at the age of 70, was unexpectedly caught up in a cheating scandal. That year, his Weibo account suddenly dropped a bombshell by posting a screenshot of a video call with a woman and a post confessing his affair to his mistress: “For you, I can give up my family, wife, and children.” However, the post was quickly deleted.

The incident went viral online. A person claiming to be Bruce Leung’s apprentice, Jinglong, immediately came forward to clarify on his behalf, saying that Bruce Leung’s account had been hacked a month earlier and emphasized: “My master is already old and not very good with Weibo.” The next day, Bruce Leung was interviewed by the media and personally refuted the points of suspicion one by one. He pointed out that the main flaw was that the Weibo post showed “Posted from iPhone,” whereas he had always used a Huawei phone. He lamented that he had lived a low-key and conscientious life, handing over almost all the money he made to his wife and children, claiming he was a thoroughly good husband.
