Famous Malaysian singer Namewee appeared this morning at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court for a mention regarding his involvement in a drug possession case.

At 8:58 am, Namewee arrived at the court accompanied by his defense lawyer Teh Ching Peng. He remained silent in front of the media cameras, only nodding in acknowledgment before quickly entering the courtroom.

Namewee was charged with two counts on October 24 last year:

1. Drug possession: He was charged with being in possession of 5.12 grams of suspected Ecstasy at a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur at about 4:30 pm on October 22, 2025, in violation of Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

2. Drug abuse: In violation of Section 15(1)(a) (drug misuse) of the same act.

– Drug abuse charge withdrawn: As Namewee's urine test came back negative, the prosecution withdrew the drug abuse charge on December 22, 2025, and Namewee was released in court.

– Drug possession charge ongoing: Regarding the drug possession charge, Namewee previously pleaded not guilty in court. Today's court session was a mention to follow up on the progress of the case.

This case is connected to the sudden death of Taiwanese internet celebrity Hsieh You-Hsin in October last year. According to Namewee's statement to the police at the time, he found Hsieh You-Hsin unconscious in the hotel bathtub at around 1:40 pm on October 22 and attempted CPR and called for an ambulance, but she could not be revived. Namewee claimed the two were discussing a video project at the time.

Police seized about 9 blue pills suspected to be Ecstasy in the hotel room. Namewee’s preliminary urine test was positive for four types of drugs, but subsequent official results were negative.

According to Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, if convicted of drug possession, one can be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than 2 years but not more than 5 years, and caning of not less than 3 but not more than 9 strokes.

After today’s court mention, the court will determine subsequent trial dates. Namewee had previously been released on bail of RM4,000 pending trial.
