On the night of the 9th, British Prime Minister Starmer made it clear during a meeting with Labour MPs that he would overhaul the operations of the Prime Minister's Office and continue to fulfill his duties as Prime Minister.

At the same time, several core cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Lammy, Foreign Secretary Cooper, and Chancellor Reeves, took to social media to publicly express their strong support for Starmer.

Recently, Starmer has faced calls for his resignation in public opinion, stemming from his previous appointment of Mandelson as British Ambassador to the US, after which Mandelson was exposed as being implicated in the Epstein case. On the 9th, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called for Starmer’s resignation, stating that the Prime Minister’s leadership “must be replaced.”

In September last year, Mandelson was relieved of his post as Ambassador to the US after it was revealed that he had close ties with Epstein. Recently, it was further exposed that Mandelson and his partner were suspected of receiving transfers from Epstein and providing him with sensitive information. After the scandal broke, Mandelson withdrew from the Labour Party and resigned from his position as a life peer in the House of Lords.

On the 8th of this month, Prime Minister’s Office chief of staff Morgan McSweeney resigned over the incident, stating that he took “full responsibility” for recommending Mandelson’s appointment. At noon on the 9th, Prime Minister’s Office director of communications Tim Allan also resigned, saying the move was to help form a new team for the Prime Minister’s Office.
