On Issues Such as the Implementation of the Iran Nuclear Deal, Iran Holds Talks with the UK, France, and Germany

Iran held talks with the United Kingdom, France, and Germany in Istanbul, Turkey on the 25th, exchanging views on the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal and related sanctions.

The talks were held at the Iranian Consulate General in Istanbul, attended by deputy foreign minister-level representatives from Iran and the three European countries, and lasted about 4 hours.

This was the first formal in-person meeting on the Iran nuclear issue between Iran and the UK, France, and Germany since the ceasefire between Israel and Iran on June 24.

After the meeting, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said on social media that all parties put forward specific proposals and discussed various issues.

He stated that the Iranian side lodged a solemn protest regarding the positions of European countries on recent conflict issues and reiterated its principled stance on issues such as "snapback sanctions."

He said consultations on this issue will continue as agreed at this meeting.

According to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue, the "snapback sanctions" provision allows signatories to take measures in response to Iran's violations. This provision is set to expire in October this year. According to reports, US Secretary of State Rubio had a phone conversation with the foreign ministers of the UK, France, and Germany on the 14th of this month, agreeing to set the end of August as the final deadline for Iran and the US to reach a nuclear agreement. Otherwise, the three European countries will initiate the process and resume sanctions against Iran.
