Trump: Nearly 200 Tariff Letters to Be Issued in the Coming Week

US President Donald Trump said on the 25th that the US will send out possibly nearly 200 tariff letters in the coming week to notify various countries of the tax rates they will face, which could be 10%, 15%, or less.

In early April, Trump introduced a “reciprocal tariff” measure, and earlier this month signed an executive order to extend the grace period for the “reciprocal tariff” to August 1st, giving countries more time to negotiate with the US.

Speaking to the media before leaving the White House for a visit to Scotland, he said, “Once the tariff letters go out, it’s a done deal. We might send out nearly 200 such letters. Don’t forget, we have a lot of countries.”

He said, “This basically says, you have to pay 10%, you have to pay 15%, maybe you’ll pay less, I don’t know.”

Regarding trade talks with Canada, Trump said the progress was not going well and Canada might be an object for the US to directly impose tariffs on, without negotiations.

Currently, the US has trade agreements only with five partners: Japan, Vietnam, the UK, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
