European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on the 25th that she will meet with US President Trump in Scotland over the weekend to discuss tariffs.
She posted on social media platform X: “After a good conversation with the US President, we agreed to meet on the 27th in Scotland to discuss transatlantic trade relations and how to keep these relations strong.”
If the EU cannot reach a trade agreement with the US before August 1, EU products will face a 30% tariff imposed by the US.
In response to the US tariffs, the EU has also launched countermeasures, imposing tariffs on American goods worth 93 billion euros (approximately 461.5 billion yuan).
Meanwhile, before leaving the White House for Scotland, Trump told the media that the probability of the US and EU reaching a trade agreement is “fifty-fifty.”
He said: “We may still have differences on 20 issues. If we can reach an agreement, it will be the most significant of all agreements.”
