(Bandar Seri Begawan, 22nd) A six-member team from Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (FRD)'s Special Assistance and Technical Rescue (SATREA) unit has set off for Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to participate in the 2025 ASEAN Regional Disaster Emergency Response Simulation Exercise (ARDEX).
The ARDEX 2025 exercise will be held from today until July 24, aiming to bring together emergency response teams from ASEAN member states to strengthen regional disaster management cooperation.
This year’s exercise scenario simulates flooding caused by a typhoon, resulting in collapsed buildings and damaged roads. The SATREA team will carry out search and rescue as well as disaster victim resettlement operations under high-pressure conditions.
Before departure, FRD Acting Director Azmi presented the national flag to SATREA commander and Senior Superintendent Azizrul Rahman at Brunei International Airport.
SATREA is a dedicated search and rescue (SAR) unit designed to respond quickly to complex incidents, including large-scale disasters.
Their participation in the ARDEX 2025 exercise serves as an important platform to test their emergency preparedness, communication, and logistics capabilities in simulated international disaster scenarios.
This exercise will also provide an opportunity for the team to gain practical experience and enhance their technical capabilities based on the standards of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).
Brunei’s involvement reinforces its commitment to regional cooperation under the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) framework.
