Golden Melody King Eason Chan recently appeared on Dodo Cheng's show and talked about his struggle with anxiety disorder. He said his greatest anxiety comes from losing his voice during concerts. He started seeing a doctor after once losing his voice and having to cancel a performance. Later, he returned to Hong Kong and consulted an ENT doctor, who found only a slight issue with his vocal cords. The main cause was that his nervous system had been affected by a previous COVID-19 infection, coupled with immense psychological pressure. The ENT specialist referred him to a psychiatrist. He revealed that he is still on medication; once, after forgetting to take his meds, he was in a good mood but then suddenly experienced chills, worry, nervousness, and a racing heartbeat.
He talked about his childhood, recalling that his mother once chased him, pretending she was going to hit him. In response, he dramatically grabbed a kitchen knife and told her, "If you keep chasing me, I'll kill myself." He emphasized that he was actually afraid of dying, so he only used the handle of the knife. He clarified that his mother never hit him—she is the gentle, virtuous type. "My mom only chased me with a cane, but she never actually hit me. My dad was the one who slapped me once, because I used bad language. That was when I was seven or eight years old."
