President Prabowo instructed the tariff negotiation team to give their all for the national interest during negotiations with the United States.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga said to reporters at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on the 15th: "(The president's) directive is to give our all for the national interest during the negotiations."

Airlangga stated he will lead the negotiation team consisting of two other ministers, namely Finance Minister Mulyani and Foreign Minister Sugiyono, to negotiate on the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US government on Indonesian products. The talks are scheduled to take place from April 16 to 23 in Washington, D.C.

Airlangga revealed that Foreign Minister Sugiyono earlier arrived in the US and had met with US Secretary of State Rubio. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Mulyani will also be heading to the US, not only for the tariff negotiations with the US government but also to attend the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings held in Washington, D.C. from April 21 to 26.

Airlangga, along with National Economic Council Chairman Luhut, engaged in a video conference with US Trade Minister Lutnik on the evening of the 14th. Fong Hui Lan, a member of the council, also attended the meeting. The minister revealed that during the online conference held with Lutnik that evening, the parties discussed global issues, which would be further detailed on the technical aspects when the US government delegation and Indonesian negotiation team meet in Washington.

Airlangga stated: “We will hold talks with multiple parties, including the United States Trade Representative office and the US Secretary of the Treasury, and will also meet with like-minded associations that share Indonesia's perspective, including the US-ASEAN, US-Indo-Pacific Organization, and various business associations in Washington.”

On April 2 local time, US President Trump announced a reciprocal tariff policy including Indonesia. This policy took effect three days after the announcement. Trump's policy would be implemented in phases, starting with a 10% universal tariff on all countries from April 5, followed by reciprocal tariffs on multiple countries including Indonesia effective on April 9 at 00:01 Eastern Time.

According to the latest US policy, a 32% tariff would be imposed on Indonesia, while other ASEAN countries face the following tariffs: Philippines 17%, Singapore 10%, Malaysia 24%, Cambodia 49%, Thailand 36%, and Vietnam 46%.

However, on the 9th, President Trump announced a 90-day suspension of the reciprocal tariffs on most countries except China.
