The Kremlin refused to comment on media reports that "Russia has submitted an application to Indonesia requesting permission for Russian military aircraft to be stationed on Indonesian territory."
Kremlin spokesman Peskov said: "There are many different fake news reports in the media, including those involving sensitive areas. But in this case, we do not comment on such reports."
In addition, according to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia's Defense Minister Marles discussed the incident with Indonesia's Defense Minister, who stated, "Russian Air Force aircraft will not be deployed in Indonesia."
Earlier, the UK's 'Jane's Defense Weekly' reported that Indonesia had received a formal request from Russia to allow Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft to be stationed in Papua, the easternmost province of Indonesia, which is only 1300 kilometers from Australia's Northern Territory.
Russia and Indonesia enjoy friendly relations, and the two countries held joint naval exercises last year. Russian Security Council Secretary Shoigu visited Indonesia in February this year to discuss security and defense issues.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Manturov also met with Indonesian President Prabowo at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on April 15.
